Japan is the only country to have dealt with two cities being destroyed by atom bombs.
The development of the atom bomb was known as the Manhattan Project. The first bomb was detonated on July 16th 1945. They were been developed and tested in Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA.
In August 1945 the United States dropped two Atomic Bombs in Japan, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki within 3 days of each other. This was done in order to end the war with Japan, and obtain their unconditional surrender.
100,000 people lost their lives in the Hiroshima bombing, with further dying due to their injuries in the initial blast, and radiation poisoning.
60,000 in the Nagasaki bombing, also with further days over the years through cancer, and other illnesses.
